Our Mission
NYCAS is an urban teaching sanctuary, animal rescue, and adoption center located in Brooklyn, NY. The nonhumans who call NYCAS home represent different species, but are all survivors of human harms. We follow the core principles of microsanctuaries and work to prioritize the well-being of each individual in our care, while challenging speciesism and working toward collective liberation.
A teaching sanctuary is a sanctuary that provides education and training to current and future animal caregivers. We seek to empower others to begin rescuing and caring for less-commonly-companioned species, while helping existing caregivers provide the best possible care.
Our Rescue Work
Though we are limited in the number of individuals who can call NYCAS their permanent home, we work to provide temporary and emergency care to those we can and assist them in finding the perfect new home. We work with other sanctuaries throughout the US and each year help save the lives of several hundred animals who spend hours to months at NYCAS before hitting the road.
